Port Townsend Washington ~ the Rose Theatre.

History

"Port Townsend enjoyed a lively theater scene before the dawn of the twentieth century.  The Palace Theatre, The Standard, and the Learned Opera House showcased local talent and traveling vaudeville troupes "of the highest caliber."  The Rose, which opened around the corner on Water Street in 1907, continued this tradition but added a recent invention to its repertoire: moving pictures.  In December 1908 the Rose moved to its current location in Taylor Street.

Tom Mix, Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, Lillian Gish, and countless other Hollywood stars graced the Rose Theatre's silver screen for more than fifty years before it closed its doors November 8, 1958 with the potboiler High School Confidential.  The Rose reopened July 11, 1992, and with the addition of the Rosebud Cinema three years later, has become one of the most treasured features of Port Townsend's National Historic District.

So, experience a film at the Rose, where the popcorn is fresh, the butter is real, the sound is superb, and every show is personally introduced by our host.  If you arrive early, you might even find a seat in our cozy balcony!"

Midori Farm, Port Townsend Washington Organic Farm

"Midori Farm is a small organic farm located at the edge of Port Townsend in East Jefferson County, Washington on the verdant north Olympic peninsula."

"Midori Farm is a small organic farm located at the edge of Port Townsend in East Jefferson County, Washington on the verdant north Olympic peninsula. We grow high quality organic vegetables and garden starts, and craft our own traditionally fermented sauerkraut and kimchi from farm grown produce. Our produce and products are available at select locations throughout Jefferson, Kitsap and Clallam Counties.

The farm is graced with views of the Olympic mountains and blessed by clean refreshing breezes blowing in from the Strait of San Juan. The gardens grow on what was once an alfalfa field and cow pasture which has created extraordinary fertility for our part of the peninsula. The soils are deep, full of organic matter and drain well. The farm is home to countless birds and insects, chickens, goats, people, and Midori the cat.

Farmers and Techniques
Hanako Myers and Marko Colby

We are committed to ecologically sound growing practices that enrich the land and hopefully our greater community. The tools of close observation, attention to detail and willful effort help us towards our goal of working with natural systems to grow delicious and nutritious food. We increase soil fertility using time tested organic techniques such as making compost, growing cover crops and practicing crop rotation to minimize insect and disease competition. Occasionally we purchase certified organic inputs to insure healthy and vital crops. One of our greatest allies and biggest challenges is a woven polyester fabric that we cover some crops with to provide protection from damaging insects.

The long term vision for Midori Farm includes creating a more diverse habitat for natural pollinators and wildlife through planting of poly-culture windbreaks, finding ways to minimize waste, generating more on-farm fertility and sustaining a livelihood for ourselves."

Moonlight Farm Chimacum Washington.

Moonlight Farms

"Moonlight Farm lives in the fertile Beaver Valley of Washington’s Olympic Peninsula.  Below a stretch of lush woodland and just inland of the Puget Sound, we are currently home to a lively bunch of pigs and chickens.  Our animals spend their days scratching and rooting around on rotating pastures, are fed on local grains and whey, and are treated with herbal and homeopathic remedies when needed. We raise our pigs from farrow to finish and aim to soon do the same for our chickens.  We strive to raise our animals as true to their natures as possible, in turn providing healthful fertility for our soils and producing more authentic, nutritious and delicious food for our community."
